Dear [NAME]
Academic Principals Message

The definition of a red letter day is:any day of special significance.
On Saturday 15 May we had our œred letter day and what a day it was!
It has been a very long time since I have seen our children, parents and staff have such a lot of fun TOGETHER. We began with an opening ceremony the highlight of which was the school song and the dancing performed by the RCL and Grade 8 & 9 students respectively. Well done to Ms Khan, Ms Mpuru, Mrs Mokoena and all the performers.
The opening game was a hit. Our boys played against a visiting team (FIFA trained Team Alexandra) who were very impressed with the Grantley soccer team.
We won the match 3-1. The following teams then played:
The concluding games were between the old boys and the current students and then the fun began! A match between the staff and our soccer boys. Im not sure what the results were but there was so much fun had by all that it didnt matter what the score was.
The two stars in the staff team were Ms Mpuru and Mr Buchalter who played with much determination and vigour! Well done to all our players who took part, in the soccer games.
On the other side of the school the culinary whizzes cooked up a storm as moms, dads, teachers and students made sure everyone had enough to eat and drink. Thank you to all our cooks and vendors who made sure that a steady stream of food and drink was maintained throughout the day.
As I look back on Saturday it struck me what a formidable force a TEAM is , and that when a group of people work towards a common goal and make it happen - the results are aw-inspiring.
Thank you to all our parents, teachers, admin, auxiliary a staff and students who worked so hard to make it happen.
WE HAD FUN and that is what is important.
Enjoy the weekend.

Outstanding School Fees
The Management Board are becoming concerned about the number of parents getting into arrears with their school fees.
As a small school Grantley College is completely dependent on the income from school fees to keep operating.
To try and help prevent becoming a problem for both the College and our parents we have made changes to the process of managing fee arrears.
From the beginning of next term we will operate the following process:
1. School fees are payable in advance by the 7th of the month.
2. If an account is not settled by the 22nd of the month a reminder will be issued giving 7 working days to settle the account.
3. If the account is not settled in this period a final letter of demand will be issued explaining the consequence of continued non-payment of fees.
I hope this process will be beneficial to both our parents and the College.
Should you experience difficulty in paying school fees please contact Karen Beevers to discuss the matter.

From the psychology desk of Dr. Kruger
I often hear that people complain that society has changed and that people do not have the same values and norms as they use to have. The future generation needs to be taught that values are important. Childrens values shape their attitudes and even the way they behave towards others. Parents need to decide which values are important to them. The following steps can help parents foster good moral values (SAALED NEWSLETTER):
Be a good example
Children are most likely to do as we do, rather than as we say. Make sure your actions arent contradicting your words.
Talk about your values
Take advantage of teachable moments for you and your child to discuss values.
Use the example of others
Help your child identify heroes, famous people, relatives and friends who have character traits you want your child to have.
Help your child practice character
To develop good habits children need regular opportunities to practice being helpful and honest, patient, fair, or what ever traits you want to instill.
Reinforce the good behaviour you see
Parents should always praise, recognise and encourage good behaviour.
Spend time with your child
If you want your children to turn out well, spend twice as much time with them and half as much money!
Become an askable parent
Dont act shocked or surprised by any of your childrens questions. Be willing to talk about whatever your child wants to talk about.
Encourage sacrifice
Great people are selfdom the ones who have been pampered all their lives. Teach your child that often their character has been moulded by hardships they had to overcome.
Counter TVs negative influence
Limit the number of hours your child watches TV. Monitor what he or she watches and talk about values, attitudes and behaviours portrayed on TV and movies.
Discuss values that are important to use such as honesty, responsibility and integrity.
Always expect the truth from your child and encourage him or her to share anything without dreading how you will react.
Give choices
If children are tom make responsible choices later in life, they need to practice doing so when they are young. Let your child make choices within the limits you have set.
