Dear [NAME]

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and the last break we shall have before exams begin at the end of May. This leaves us with just over 3 weeks of teaching time. Parents - please encourage your children to start preparing for these exams as there is not much time left.
I am also concerned to note that there are a number of first term reports that are lying uncollected in the front office. Parents who are yet to receive these reports are urged to telephone the office, e-mail or send a letter in order for the reports to be released to the students.
The Matric Dance was held on Saturday 24 April. It was a fitting celebration for our Matric students who had a great time whilst behaving in a manner that made me very proud to be associated with this College. At the end of the evening the manager of the restaurant thanked me for using the venue and complimented the College on the behaviour of our matric students. Well done to all of them.
Thank you very much to Ms Bell, Mrs Essey and the Matric Dance Committee for the fantastic effort they put into making it an evening to remember.
Yours sincerely

The Pirates of Penzance Jr
Our Grantley Star!!

The South African Musical Theatre Academy has announced its up and coming release of the classic Gilbert and Sullivan beloved classic, The Pirates of Penzance, showing at the Bedfordview Town Hall during the month of May.Wacky; irreverent; and as entertaining today as it was when it first opened in 1879, The Pirates Of Penzance spins an hilarious farce of sentimental pirates; bumbling policemen; dimwitted young lovers; dewy-eyed daughters; and an eccentric Major-General, all morally bound to the often-ridiculous dictates of honour and duty.
Director, Quintin Collett, and Co-director, Celeste Lotz, have breathed new life into this 131 year old musical master piece by assembling a cast and crew of young and old actors ranging from the ages of four to 30. While SAMTA has cast both, the very best of South African musical theatre talent and up and coming musical theatre stars.
These young men and woman comprise the pirates; police; and daughters of the musical. Audiences will be amazed and thrilled at the level of competence that these young performers will deliver after only their first appearance in front of a live audience.
With the generous sponsorship of local companies such as Mica Eastgate (Set and paint); JODS (Costume and props); Nashua North East (Printing); and Party Design (Venue décor), SAMTA promises to present its biggest and best production yet. The Pirates of Penzance Jr is a show that has stood the test of time and will undoubtably thrill and entertain an audience of any age. Pirates of Penzance is a classic show that must not be missed.

SOCCER SHIRTS
Dear Parents
As a school, Grantley College has decided to become involved in the Fifa Soccer World Cup. Our aim is to show loyalty to South Africa as well as to get behind the Bafana Bafana soccer team. We are also raising funds towards our own soccer field which we are planning to open with a big bash on the 15th May 2010.
We are therefore encouraging all the students to buy a South African soccer t-shirt from the school. They will be able to wear these on Fridays to school. The teachers have already started the trend. No other soccer shirt will be allowed. The soccer shirt will be on sale daily, in the mornings, from Mrs Duif at R120.00 each. Should you wish to order for family and friends as well, feel free to do so.
Ladies shirts range from small to X large available in green, and the men`s shirts are available from small to XX large in white and green. These shirts are Fifa approved.
Please support our endeavour as well as our fund-raising venture.
As we are working as a cash-free environment, please fill in the attached order form below to place the cost of the t-shirts on your account.
NEWSFLASH!!!!
Students are allowed to wear their soccer t-shirts which are purchased from the school. They may wear this shirt on a FRIDAY ONLY together with the balance of the school uniform.

Experiencing or Witnessing a Traumatic Event (Texas University)
When you experience or witness an event that is traumatic for you, you may feel intense fear, helplessness, terror or horror or you may find yourself just feeling numb (not feeling anything). Sometimes, you may not realize that you have been traumatized. You may be in shock or unaware of the impact of the event.
During the days or months following the trauma, you may find yourself re-experiencing the event in dreams, feelings, daydreams and/or other conscious thoughts or trying to avoid any setting that may remind you of the trauma. You may feel detached from those around you. You may have difficulty sleeping or find yourself sleeping much more than usual. You may even have trouble concentrating.
Some useful strategies for dealing with your reactions:
First, recognize that you have been exposed to a traumatic event and that is bound to affect you in some way. Remember that there is no right or wrong way to think or feel about the traumatic event. Any reaction you have is valid. Be accepting of your own feelings and reactions as well as those of others. Different people may react in very different ways.
Talking to others about the event can be very helpful. Tell sympathetic family or friends about your experience. Dont feel over-responsible: Try to understand what you limitations were at the time of the event. People tend to feel that they should have reacted differently or done something to prevent or to lessen the impact of the incident. Be aware that in traumatic situations, most people react in the best way that they can based on their ability and their awareness at that exact moment in time.
Sometimes the trauma has affected your friends and family, and they mat not be able to help you or even listen to you. In fact, they may also need someone to talk to.
Take advantage of individual and group counseling services available to you. Counseling can help you make sense of your experience to understand how the trauma has affected you and to understand your feelings and reactions to it. The more you talk about it the better. Try and remember as much detail as possible (using all your senses). Talking about the traumatic event lessens the impact it has on day to day living.
