Dear [NAME]
ACADEMIC PRINCIPAL
This week I wish to address the safety and wellbeing of your children. Whilst I am aware that it is not always possible to collect a child at 16:00 (when homework class ends). I must appeal to our parent body to make every effort not leave students waiting until 18:00hrs at school. At this time of the evening there is only a security guard on duty as the academic staff and admin staff have already by this time gone home.
I would like to encourage the parents to make a concerted effort to ensure that their children are not left at school too late into the afternoon.
The second issue is I have booked John Buswell from Rapewise to address our parents on 20th May at a special parents information evening.
This talk directly addresses the safety and wellbeing of adolescents in 21st century society. It is a subject which is very close to my heart and is a subject which should concern every parent of a teenager growing up in our country.
John Buswell is an expert in this particular field and his presentation will contain information on: New Serious Sexual Offences Amendments Acts Mixit Facebook Pornography on the internet and cell phone Drugs including date rape Subcultures in the youth Depression in adolescents Self Mutilation
I would urge every parents in this school to attend this presentation as I am sure that all of you have questions and concerns that you would like to have answered by an expert.
Please mark this date on your calendar and make it a priority to attend. Let us all work together.

HOMEWORK HELP (K. Keith)
Get off to a good start at homework time in your house. Stock a homework center with these essentials to help your child stay focused and organized. Large table or desk A kitchen table is ideal for homework. Just keep the supplies close at hand in a storage box. Any large table or desk with plenty of space for spreading out books and papers will work well; a small computer desk will not do Lamp An essential at homework time, a lamp focuses your child's attention and prevents eye strain. It sets a pleasantly relaxing ambience. Timer Use kitchen timers. They have a multitude of uses for parents, but at homework time they help the child learn persistence and take needed breaks. Reference Books A dictionary and thesaurus geared to your child's reading level are tops on the list. A grammar helper is also nice. This is where your computer comes in handy, since you can click to great reference sources quickly. Storage box for supplies A lightweight rolling shelf is perfect for organizing homework supplies. It can be rolled into a laundry room or pantry when the kitchen table is needed for mealtime. Or, use a stationary chest of drawers next to your child's homework desk. Bulletin Board Place the bulletin board in a central location to post papers that have to be signed, school events, and daily reminders. Use a small dry erase board to teach your child during homework time. Radio/Tape/CD Player Audio tapes are a great learning tool for a child with visual-perceptual and reading problems. Personal help Help your child with homework, breaking down assignments into smaller tasks and keeping the child focused. Have a regular time for homework and allow for frequent breaks. Reinforce study skills such as highlighting, note taking, and reading out loud. Praise your child for work done well and remember, good is not necessarily the same as perfect. Check that completed homework and other materials are where they`re supposed to be when your child leaves for school. Have a reward system for good days or weeks at school. Regularly praise your child for appropriate behavior at school.
